39. Murder and Rage

“You have heard it said, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever murders will be in danger of judgment.’ But I tell you, everyone who is angry without a cause will be in danger of judgment; and whoever says, ‘Idiot!’ will be in danger of the council; and whoever curses another will be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.

“If you are offering your gift at the altar, and remember that someone has something against you, leave your gift there, and go be reconciled to that person, and then come and offer your gift.”

“Settle your financial disputes quickly, while you are with your adversary on the road, lest the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. You shall not get out of there until you have paid the last penny.”

Reflection

Almost anything can rupture a relationship. Too many people are determined to prove they are right no matter the cost. How often do you find yourself getting angry? How hard do you fight to prove you are right? How often do you say things in anger you later regret?
Prayer: Get me back on track, Lord, when my defensiveness makes me start attacking others.
